Estate workers will receive a daily wage of Rs.1000 a day from the Rs.750 starting from March 1st, Co-government spokesperson and State Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Mahindananda Aluthgamage said.
Speaking at the weekly media briefing at the Prime Minister’s office, Minister Aluthgamage said that discussions had been held with the tea board and other companies over the same. “We have provided much needed relief in the forms of cessation of taxes such as NBT and VAT. We have also given a moratorium on loans they have obtained. In lieu of these we expect the companies to follow suit.”
