Two girls who had lost their fathers and belong to families that were affected by the Eelam war were ranked first place in the Mullaitivu district in the Arts Stream and Commerce Stream respectively, according to the Advanced Level results 2019 released on Friday.
Both girls received their education at Puthukkudiyiruppu Central College.
The district first in the Commerce Stream is Ravichandran Yalini, who lives in Devpuram in Mullaitivu. The girl’s father went missing during the Eelam war. Her mother, who lost one hand due to a bomb, is working and taking care of the family. They are looked after by an elder brother.
The Mullaitivu district first in the Arts Stream is S. Sudarshani, who also lost her father during the Eelam war. Sudarshani’s mother is a daily wage earner and that is her only source of income. She lives in a village called Madukarei in Mullaitivu.
Both girls achieved the top results despite the hardships in their lives.
