Minister Mahinda Yapa says 19th Amendment should be abolished

Irrigation and Rural Development State Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena said the 19th amendment should be abolished.

He was addressing a meeting in Weligama recently.

The State Minister said that former government wanted to reduce the powers of Presidency by adopting the 19th amendment.

The country gained nothing from it and the former Prime Minister brought it solely to increase his power.

The State Minister said Maithripala Sirisena pledged to bring about the 20th amendment, but he deceived all by not doing it. He said that they contributed greatly towards the victory of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and they are ready to face a general election.

The State Minister said the next general election will be held on the proportional representation system.

He said Hambantota, Galle and Matara delivered the best results for Gotabaya Rajapaksa but Hambantota that Sajith Premadasa told he served very much gave him only 26 per cent of votes.
