Migrant workers’ fees reduced

The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau has taken the initiative of amending the administration fee and the renewal administration fee of migrant workers.

That was as a result of the economic strategy of the new government to amend the tax rates imposed on various goods and services.

Accordingly, the foreign employment registration fee has been reduced to Rs. 16, 416 from Rs. 17, 837.

The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau stated in a news release that the renewal administration fee which was at Rs. 3,755 was reduced to Rs. 3,456 according to the new amendment. This new amendment fee is to be enacted with retrospective effect from the December 1, 2019.

Around 1.5 million Lankans are working abroad, not counting the nearly 1 million Sri Lankans permanently living abroad who remit funds to their relatives living in Sri Lanka. It is mandatory for Sri Lankans seeking employment abroad to go through the SLBFE.
