Court prohibits protest demanding former OIC’s arrest

A protest that was to be held demanding the arrest of the former Southern Province Special Crime Investigation Unit OIC over the murder of two businessmen in Rathgama that took place eleven months ago, was proscribed on a magisterial order issued by Galle Acting Magistrate Premarathna Thirangama, yesterday.

This has happened after a Rathgama Police Sergeant had requested the acting magistrate for an order to prohibit the protest, which was to be held by the families of the two victims.

The victims; Gonapinuwalage Manjula Asela and Kosma Rasik Chintaka of Rathnaudagma, Rathgama; were killed on January 23. Seventeen suspects, including 15 police personnel and two Wildlife Conservation officers, have been remanded in connection with this double-homicide.
