Speaker Karu Jayasuriya had drawn the attention of the Secretary of the UNP to a letter he received on Wednesday evening, signed by 57 MPs requesting that Sajith Premadasa be recognized as the Opposition Leader.
Jayasuriya acknowledged United National Front leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the leader of the opposition the previous day, but after 57 Parliamentarians requested that United National Front Parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa be appointed as the leader of the opposition, he said the UNP should settle their differences through dialogue and duly communicated to him.
He said that once the final decision of the opposition is communicated to him he will announce who the leader of the opposition is at the next Parliament session.
