SLPP making a joke of women’s hygiene - Rosy

National Democratic Front (NDF) Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa is a fearless leader who tackles taboo subjects which are burning issues in society that no other politician talks about, Mayor of Colombo Rosy Senanayake said yesterday. She was addressing a press briefing at the NDF election operations centre at Vauxhall Street, Colombo yesterday.

“It is distressing to see Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) camp joking about a sensitive problem. Sajith Premadasa fearlessly took the issue into consideration and came out with solutions,” Ms. Senanayake remarked.

“I would like to add that SLPP Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa has not addressed women’s empowerment and rights properly in his manifesto. He only focuses on empowerment of housewives. Housewives are a major sector to be addressed, yet in this 21st century, it is surprising to see him missing the women workforce which plays a major role in our economy. And also they lack confidence to address issues like harassment of women since all the rapists are in the SLPP camp,” the Colombo Mayor alleged.

“Due to the inability to afford sanitary napkins, many schoolgirls skip school. Not only schoolgirls, women who play a role in building the economy too face difficulties on a daily basis. We will begin a project within the Colombo region to manufacture sanitary napkins at a low cost boosting women’s self employment projects as well. Sajith Premadasa’s intention as a leader of the common man is to enhance the health and mental condition of women which are crippled by poverty,” Senanayake said.

She also expressed her views on the complaints by Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa about the Cost of Living. “I am confident that the Cost of Living is comparatively low under the Good Governance era than during the Rajapaksa era. The very first thing we did after this came to power was to reduce the prices of essential goods and increasing the salaries of State sector employees,” she added.

Senanayake further said that Sajith Premadasa as a minister rendered a yeoman service within his capacity and he is an asset to the country.
