Probe into SPC’s pharma purchases

A special committee to probe dealings of the former State Pharmaceuticals Corporation (SPC) chairman has been appointed by Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine Minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi.

She said action has been taken to ensure that the former chairman does not leave the country until the relevant investigations on malpractices and corruption at the SPC are over.

The Ministry Secretary has been tasked to appoint a special committee to conduct the investigation that is now in progress.

Minister Wanniarachchi requests the public to inform her of any available details on possible malpractices and corruption that had taken place at the State Pharmaceuticals Corporation from 2015 to 2019 on importing and distributing drugs.The information can be provided either verbally or in writing to the committee. In the recent past there were several reports on various acts of corruption and malpractice that had occurred in the SPC in connection with importing low quality and dangerous drugs (pharmaceuticals) used for cancer treatment.
