Princess Diana’s velvet gown hits auction

The midnight-blue evening gown Princess Diana wore to a White House state dinner when she danced with her favorite Hollywood star John Travolta in 1985 will be sold at an upcoming auction in London.

The dress is expected to fetch between £250,000 and £350,000 (US$323,000 and US$452,000), according to Kerry Taylor Auctions, which will feature the gown at its Passion For Fashion sale, on Dec. 9.

The gown was made by Victor Edelstein, whose shop Princess Diana often visited. The princess saw this model a lightly boned bodice with off-the-shoulder straps in burgundy and requested it be made for her in midnight blue, according to Kerry Taylor Auctions.
