Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Gampaha District leader MP Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday said he is gratified about the Gampaha District bringing an epic win with the highest number of votes for newly-elected President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
MP Ranatunga was addressing the media after the victory of new President-elect Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
“Gampaha District citizens have given immense support to the victory of Gotabaya Rajapaksa and therefore, it is the district that has given him the highest number of votes. Promising the victory of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, 361,199 majority votes were received in the district. Since Mahinda Rajapaksa left the district, people of the Gampaha District were waiting for the victory of Gotabaya Rajapaksa; as a result, 81 percent of the Gampaha district people have gone to polling stations for the first time to vote,” he said.
Moreover, he said the combination of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the newly-elected President Gotabaya Rajapaksa will take the country to a golden era. “The country which was moving backwards for the last four and a half years will be taken forward with economic development and the strengthening of national security. I am grateful to the entire country for ensuring the victory of Gotabaya Rajapaksa and we invite everyone to celebrate the victory peacefully. We would also invite the nation to join hands with us for a better country,” he added.
