Poverty will be eradicated if elected President – Gota

Poverty of the country will be eradicated by facilitating the poor with livelihoods and initiating rural development schemes, Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) Presidential Candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa said.

He was addressing an election propaganda meeting at the Dambulla Public Ground on Friday.

“The national security is deplorable. We will strengthen it once we come to power. Our manifesto includes all our future strategies for the country,” he said.

He said major problems of the public have already been identified and solutions for them have been included in the SLPP manifesto. “I will implement all of them during my tenure,” Gotabaya said.

“I spoke with many residents here and their major request is to save the motherland and strengthen its security. I will also ease the tax system and introduce a simple one instead.

Unnecessary taxes will be slashed,” Gotabaya said.

“Fertiliser will be provided for free. The pension scheme for farmers will be re-commenced. A government job will be granted to a member of each poor family,” he said.Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa, Parliamentarians Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera, Udaya Gammapila, Wimal Weerawansa, and Rohitha Abeygunawardana spoke.
