Minorities are against the desires of the majority community - UPA Chairman Basheer Segu Dawood

UPA Chairman Basheer Segu Dawood addresses a press briefing held on Sunday (10) at Green Villa Restaurant in Oluvil in support of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Muslims should not vote for a candidate who gets the majority votes of the minority communities, because minorities are against the desires of the majority community.

Muslims of this country should vote for a candidate who gets the majority votes of the majority community, said Chairman of United Peace Alliance.

He was speaking at a press briefing held on Sunday (10) at Green Villa Restaurant in Oluvil in support of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Presidential candidate Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Racism and communalism is prevailing in top levels everywhere in this country. This is the time to structure the Muslim politics. Sinhalese are not against Islam and Muslims. They are against minority community politicians. When they oppose minority politicians, Muslims are affected. Muslim politicians are doing politics for their personal benefits, not for the community.

Muslims have so many problems. Still Muslims depend on Muslim politicians for solutions. Muslim leaders (ACMC and SLMC) urge Muslims to vote for Sajith Premadasa. They give a bad picture of SLPP candidate, but they should learn the history of late President R. Premadasa. Sajith Premadasa says that he will follow his father’s path. His father had a personal law and order then.

He did many anti-social activities to remain in politics. So will Sajith Premadasa? Muslim leaders should turn back and learn the history of Sajith Premedasa’s father.

We do not know why Muslim leaders refuse Gotabaya Rajapaksa. In 2010, Muslim leaders brought Sarath Fonseka to contest in the presidential election. Where was he before coming into politics?. Gotabaya Rajapaksa has much experience in politics rather than Sarath Fonseka.

We took a decision after the high command decision to support Gotabaya Rajapaksa and SLPP for ensuring security and well being of the Muslim community, said former minster and former Chairman of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Basheer Segu Dawood.

The General Secretary of United Peace Alliance M.T.Hasen Ali said, we waited till the main presidential candidate’s manifestos and policies on minorities were released. UDF presidential candidate earlier announced that he would accept any condition from any party for get support for this polls. We were officially invited by SLPP only. We held discussions with the committee of the SLPP.

They believed us and agreed to our proposals. We singed MOU with the Secretary General SLPP. In 2015, I was against former Mahinda Rajapaksa because we were shown an image that Mahinda and his team were not good for Muslim community by SLMC leader. We had faced many problems during this Yahapalanaya Government when Muslim ministers existed in the Yahapalanaya Government. The present government is not an efficient one. They do not know how to rule this country. Their incapability caused security problems in April 2019.

The Parliament Select Committee appointed to probe the recent Easter Sunday attacks found four high officers guilty. So how will they ensure the national security in this country? asked Hasen Ali. Now the Muslim leaders back this government for only their personal benefits. Whether the SLPP wins or loses in this Presidential polls, UPA will be with them in the General election too. From time to time we have to build up the confidence of our community, Muslim politicians crossed over to bag benefits. We back SLPP to bring a strong government.

Like SLMC and ACMC we don’t force the Muslim community for whom to vote. We speak the truth. Truth never falls down. If we want to live peacefully with our own dignity, we should vote for Gotabaya Rajapaksa to ensure national security and prosperity to this country, said M.T.Hasen Ali, former Minister of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine and present UPA Secretary General.
