Met. Dept. warning: Rough seas, Heavy rain

The Meteorology Department has alerted over warnings of rough sea conditions and heavy rain that will prevail for next few days.

The Met. Department forecasts that the Showery condition over the island (particularly in the Eastern, Northern, North-central, Uva, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces) is likely to enhance during next few days.  Showers or thundershowers will occur with heavy falls about 100-150 mm are likely at some places in the above areas.

Due to the active cloudiness within the sea area, the possibility for heavy thundershowers and sudden roughness, associated with sudden increase of wind speed (up to 70-80 kmph) in the Eastern, Western and Southern sea areas to the island is high in next few days.

Therefore Naval units and fishing communities have been asked to be vigilant in this regard.
