A suspect who was arrested with 33.6 grams of heroin has been shot dead by Police Narcotics Bureau officers in Galle.
Police spokesperson SSP Ruwan Gunasekara said the suspect was shot when he attempted to escape on being produced before the Karapitiya Judicial Medical Officer yesterday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Dinesh Chaminda Liyanarachchi 34, a resident of Jambugaswatta, Poddala.
SSP Gunasekara said the suspect was arrested by the Galle Police Narcotics Bureau with 33 grams and 600 milligrams of heroin on November 11 near the Galle Municipal Council. The injured suspect succumbed to his wounds after being admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital.
SSP Gunasekara also stated that there are four pending court cases related to possession of heroin.
