Gota cold shouldered Police service then - Range Bandara

Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa did not treat war heroes well, UNP MP Palitha Range Bandara said yesterday.

Bandara said that when Gotabhaya Rajapaksa was the Defence Secretary, the Police was mistreated. “During his brother’s regime, the National Police Commission was inactive. When they launched the Ranaviru Star reality show, police officers were not allowed to participate in the competition. This is the way he mistreated Police. Hardly any police officers where included in the Ranaviru Housing program, excluding several occasions. The Api Wenuwen Api fund, which received thousands of dollars, was misused under his watch.” he said.

“There is a policy in military forces that in a camp there should be one toilet facility per ten soldiers. When Gotabhaya Rajapaksa made soldiers work at different sites, 100 soldiers only had two toilets. The soldiers had to wait in a long queue from 3.00 a.m. to use the toilet facility.” Bandara said.

Making reference to several videos circulating in the internet, he said some supporters of Gotabhaya Rajapaksa are seen pushing and shouting at a police officer at a SLPP rally. The MP questioned if this is the kind of discipline that Gotabhaya Rajapaksa intends on bringing to this country.

If police and military forces want to serve this country with dignity, they should support a government headed by United National Front presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa, Range Bandara said.
