Former President and Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa’s birthday falls today. Coincidentally, in 2005 he was gifted with the country’s fifth executive presidency on his 60th birthday. The Former President is understood to be delighted that on this birthday too he has a wonderful birthday gift - his younger brother Gotabaya’s assumption of the seventh Presidency of his motherland.
Party insiders anticipate that Former President Mahinda will have yet another birthday gift soon – in the form of the nation’s Premiership. The recent month’s showed the Former President’s guiding presence in brother Gotabaya’s hectic election campaign to become the seventh executive president.
President-elect Gotabaya Rajapaksa will be sworn-in by the Chief Justice in Anuradhapura today.
