Derailed tracks being restored

The Railway Control Room said that the Railway officials were taking urgent steps to restore the track between Galgamuwa and Ambanpola railway stations.

The Yal Devi train derailed between Galgamuwa and Ambanpola railway stations yesterday disrupting the entire Northern Railway services throughout the day.

Sri Lanka Railways sources in Galgamuwa told the Daily News that at about 3.30 pm five railway compartments had derailed between Galgamuwa and Ambanpola stations.

The derailed compartments had crashed about four kilometers away from the railroad track, they said. The train was traveling from Jaffna to Mount Lavinia when it had derailed.
