Heavy rains hit over 2,800 people in Puttalam

The Puttalam District Disaster Management Center (DMC) said heavy rains since Tuesday affected 2,828 persons of 766 families in Puttalam.

The Mundal Divisional Secretariat reported 622 affected persons of 165 families, the Wannattaville Divisional Secretariat reported four people of two families, while the Wennappuwa Divisional Secretariat recorded 466 affected people of 103 families.

The Karuwalagaswewa Divisional Secretariat reported four affected of a family, the Naththandiya Divisional Secretariat reported 380 persons of 97 families and the Chilaw Divisional Secretariat reported 210 displaced persons of 25 families.

The Puttalam Divisional Secretariat reported 648 affected persons of 208 families, the Mahawewa Divisional Secretariat reported 402 persons of 104 families, the Dankotuwa Divisional Secretariat reported 32 persons of nine families and 161 persons of 52 families in the Mahakumbukkadawala Divisional Secretariat.

Puttalam DMC Assistant Director Ranjith Alahakoon said food, drinking water and medical facilities are provided through the Divisional Secretariats for the flood affected.
