Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said that the recent railway trade union action was allegedly the doing of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Presidential Candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
It was done in fear of New Democratic Front Presidential Candidate Sajith Premadasa's chances at victory, as well as to gain political mileage, he said.
The Finance Minister was addressing the media at his residence in Matara, recently.
The present regime has increased the salaries of government servants by 107 percent. A Rs.2,500 increment was also provided in July, he added.
The previous government won the 30-year civil war, but they did not see to the welfare of the soldiers who fought in it, the minister said.
However, the present government has ensured that they receive sufficient benefits, he added.
