UPFA nominates Shantha Bandara for Salinda’s vacant Parliament seat

United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) General Secretary Mahinda Amaraweera has sent a letter to the Election Commission nominating former Parliamentarian and Dambadeniya SLFP Chief Organiser Shantha Bandara to fill the vacant seat of Salinda Dissanayake in Parliament. The seat of Salinda Dissanayake, who represented the UPFA from the Kurunegala district, has fallen vacant following his demise on August 5.

Thereafter, National List parliamentarian Shantha Bandara resigned from his position with the hope of entering Parliament through the district list as he obtained the next highest number of Preferential Votes in the Kurunegala district UPFA list.

However, former Minister D.B.Herath was nominated for the vacant parliamentary post of the Kurunegala District by Kurunegala District Returning Officer and Kurunegala District Secretary Gamini Ilangaratne as per the instructions of the Attorney General.
