SLFP will emerge victorious at Presidential Polls - SLFP National Organizer

I never forget that the SLFP and the grassroot-level SLFP supporters paved the way for me to rise up in politics and there might be politicians among the SLFP cadre who are ungrateful. They seemed to have forgotten that they were indebted to the party and innocent voters for hoisting them to the then position of a minister, prime minister, opposition leader or the president, SLFP National Organizer Duminda Dissanayake said recently.

“I will be the last person to leave the SLFP which brought me up politically,” he said.

The Parliamentarian was addressing the media following a public function in Nochchiyagama recently.

He who said the SLFP would emerge victorious as it survived several times in the past controversial political issues mentioned the incident in which the daughter and the son of the SLFP Founder late Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike deserted the SLFP to give birth to new political parties over disputes. Attempts to sabotage the SLFP and its image from time to time were successfully thwarted and the SLFP remained intact and resurrected.

The SLFP National Organizer further said that not only the SLFP, but the UNP and the Pohottuwa are too facing complicated political issues.

“Our opponents are charging that SLFP General Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekara and I have been endeavouring to break the unity and mutual understanding between the SLFP and the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna. But it is Basil Rajapaksa who did so by offering the Pohottuwa membership to Dilan Perera and S.B. Dissanayake, while the two parties were engaged in crucial talks with regard to the shaping up of the proposed alliance to fight the presidential elections,” he said.

“Also, it is the decision of the SLFP Central Committee to have a new acceptable name and a new political symbol other than ‘Pohottuwa’ or the ‘Hand’ for the proposed alliance,” he said.

He stated that the SLFP would not confine its political dialogue only to the Sri Lanka Podu Jana Peramuna. There are plans to extend discussions with other major political parties regarding the current issues, mainly the Presidential elections. Our objective was to empower an overall national development plan rather than crowning one individual personality,” the SLFP National Organizer emphasized.
