Four youths remanded for sedative pills

Four youth including a woman were arrested by the Police Narcotic Bureau (PNB) on Thursday for distributing sedative pills to parties and keeping with them 120 such tablets.

Produced before Galle Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekunawela yesterday, they were remanded until September 26.

Wickramaratnage Tharaka Madusanka (25), Wickramarachchi Pathirannehelage Sanjaya Kumara (30), Praneeth Dislhan Kumara (24), and Kirumbara Arachchige Sanduni Madushani (23) of Aththidiya, Dehiwala and Bokundara were remanded in this regard. The PHB officials who were on alert on a tip off arrested the suspects at a railway crossing in Hikkaduwa while the suspects were travelling in a rented car on Thursday.

The officers had been informed by the public that the suspects were distributing sedative tablets to parties in Hikkaduwa. The official detected 120 pills with them. The youth had brought the sedative drugs to be supplied to parties arranged via Face Book and to foreigners and locals. A pill is sold at Rs. 4,000 to 5,000.
