Winds, heavy rain, lightning in whole south-west

The prevailing showery and windy conditions are likely to continue in the South-Western parts of the island, the Department of Meteorology said yesterday. Wind gusts of upto 60-65 km/h are possible in the North-Western, Westem, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Southern Provinces and of 40-50 km/h in the North-Central Province and, the Tincomalee district.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Nofth Western Provinces. Light showers will occur in the Mannar, Jaffna and Anuradhapura districts. Fairly heavy rain falls of above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts. There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers. The public is kindly requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity.
