The official ceremony to distribute the textbooks would be held under his patronage today at 10.00 am at the store of the Education Ministry in Homagama, Pitipana.
About 43 million students including pirivena students countrywide would get free textbooks for next year.
Minister Kariyawasam has instructed the Educational Publications Department to distribute the textbooks to all students before the end of the third school term in the current academic year.
There are about 448 types of textbooks to be distributed and all teachers would be provided with teachers’ manuals too along with the free textbooks for students.
Students from Grade 1 to Grade 12 would thus get free textbooks from the government, Minister Kariyawasam said.
