Australia deports Lankan illegal immigrants

Thirteen Sri Lankans, who had illegally migrated to Australia and were deported, arrived in the country this morning.

The group of males from Chilaw had recently set sail to Australia in multi-day fishing trawlers.

They were sent back to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in a special aircraft under tight security by the Australian authorities.

The group arrived at the BIA around 6.30 am today and were taken into the custody of the Immigration and Emigration officers attached to the BIA.  Group was handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department for further investigations.
