A total number of 8864 motorists have been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol from July 5 to August 16 the police media said.
A special island-wide operation was commenced from July 5 , in order to apprehend drunk drivers.
Accordingly 147 drunk drivers were arrested from August 15, 6.00am to August 16, 6.00am.
