SLMA workshop on PPIE on July 22

The Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) in collaboration with Institute for Research and Development (IRD) will conduct the workshop “Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) in Health and Social Care: Its Role and Relevance in the Research and Implementation Process” on Monday, July 22. The workshop will be held at National Hospital of Sri Lanka (NHSL) Clinical Medicine Academics and Research Centre (ClinMARC) lecture hall (3rd Floor) from 9am to 1pm.

This is the second consecutive year that a workshop is conducted by SLMA in collaboration with IRD (www.ird.lk) as a pre-congress workshop of SLMA’s International Medical Congress.

The workshop is open for stakeholders who are interested in incorporating PPIE in research and implementation process. It will be targeted towards both new and returning participants, and will be conducted from a health and social care perspective.

PPIE enables researchers to conduct studies that are relevant to, and in line with the needs of the patients and communities influenced by the research problem. Thereby resulting in research of higher quality, improved likelihood of successful recruitment, and successful implementation of findings.

An eminent panel of resource persons will conduct the workshop including Prof.Diyanath Samarasinghe, who has spearheaded the use of PPIE in Health Promotion in Sri Lanka and Prof. Athula Sumathipala, Professor of Psychiatry/Director Internationalisation, Research Institute for Primary Care and Health Sciences, Keele University, UK.
