A man was fined Rs. 40,000 for having 26 bottles of illegal liquor and distilling equipment by Trincomalee Magistrate Chamila Kumari Ratnayake recently.
The accused is a 54-year-old resident of Gomarankadawala, Kalyanapura.
Police said the accused was arrested in Kalyanapura when he was waiting near a canal of a paddy field with the bottles of liquor and the equipment. The arrest was made on a tip-off, police said.
