Navy apprehends 09 persons for fishing without valid license

Sri Lanka Navy apprehended 09 persons for engaging in fishing without valid license in the lagoon area of Puttalam yesterday.

During a patrol conducted in the lagoon area of Puttalam, a group of naval personnel attached to craft belonging to the Northwestern Naval Command apprehended these suspects who engaged in fishing without valid license. The apprehended persons have been identified as residents of Kalpitiya, from 22 to 58 years of age. The naval personnel also took 04 dinghies, 04 outboard motors (OBMs), 04 unauthorized fishing nets and 51kg of illegally caught fish into naval custody.

The apprehended persons along with the dinghies, OBMs, fishing nets, illegally caught fish and other fishing gear were handed over to the Fisheries Inspector of Puttalam for onward action.
