Case against Hambantota Mayor postponed

The case against the Hambantota Mayor and five others was postponed till August 1 by the Hambantota High Court Judge on July 18.

Hambantota Mayor Eraj Ravindra Fernando and five others were convicted of having attacked a group of United National Party (UNP) parliamentarians who arrived at the Hambantota Harbour and Mattala Airport to inspect them on April 17, 2014.

The verdict was to be delivered on July 18 but due to an error in the name of a witness, the verdict was postponed. The MPs on the inspection tour were Eran Wickramaratna, Ajith Mannapperuma, Ajith P. Perera and R.Yogarajan.

The case was heard for five years. Counsels Thusitha Patabedige and Devinda Ranawaka appeared for the suspects. Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris and State Counsel Gayan Perera appeared for the complainant.
