Cardinal presses for independent probe on Easter attack

Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, senior prelate of the Roman Catholic Church in Sri Lanka, is continuing to press for the Government to appoint an independent commission of inquiry to investigate the Easter Sunday terror attacks. This call by the Catholic prelate is being made because “some of the inquiries currently being conducted outside the judicial process seem politically biased,” Archbishop’s House Spokesman Fr. Jude Krishantha told the Daily News yesterday.

Explaining the Cardinal’s call, Fr. Krishantha said that the request of the Church is for a committee or a commission comprising independent members, who are not politically biased, to carry out a fresh investigation into the Easter Sunday terror attacks. The Spokesman said that the investigations into the terror attacks should not follow any political agenda.
