In memory of Roger Alfred Ratnayake

Our lives will never be the same same since you left us to be with Jesus three months ago.

You were a dearly loved and treasured husband, father, father-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, grandfather and friend both here and abroad.

We will miss you, dear Roger. May you rest in peace.

Tissa Waidyarathna

He was humble and loving

Tissa Waidyarathna of No. 81, Station Road, Maharagama, stepped down from the stage of life at the age of 88 on April 24, this year. He was a reputed Engineer attached to the Colombo Municipal Council. His father was well-known Ayurveda Physician Charles Waidyarathna of Kollonawa and his mother was Emali Perera.

Tissa Waidyarathna had a pleasant and beautiful family life. His wife, Wimala Waidyarathna, was very devoted to him. He fulfilled all his duties as a husband. As a father, he discharged all his duties to his son and daughter. They were all well-educated and are well-employed.

As a devout Buddhist, Tissa rendered a great service to many Buddhist temples. He was the President of the Sri Gnanarama Meditation Centre Development Society at Thalawatugoda and a Patron at the Thalawatugoda Sangamitharamaya.

He supported the Maha Sangha with dedication and he had great knowledge of the Abidharma. He was the Vice-President of the Abidharma Sabha at Borella, which published several books and conducted classes on the topic.

He was a wonderful, devoted, loving and kind personality who endeavoured to keep everybody happy. I was fortunate to get to know him at many religious and social activities. Tissa was a very simple, kind, loving and humble person. He was compassionate and understanding and was always ready to forgive anyone with a beautiful smile.

His fulfilled life is our legacy, and our fond memories of him are the comfort in our hearts that will linger on forever.

His life and memory will help us carry out more social and religious work today. We will never forget his kind thoughts, pleasant words, and noble deeds.

The flower blossoms and fades
The sun rises and descends
But the memories dignified and gracious
Deeds and accomplishments of our friend,
Would linger on, never to fade away

May his journey through Sansara be swift and short until he attains the Supreme Bliss of Nirvana.

A.D.T. Maithripala (JP), Thalawatugoda
