A SLPP member of the Mihintale Pradeshiya Sabha was arrested by the Mihintale Police in connection with a clash among two youth groups at a liquor party held on Poson Poya.
The clash occurred near a dansala held near the old hospital premises in the Mihintale sacred area and resulted in six youths being hospitalised.
Investigations revealed that the clash had occurred when SLPP member Nipuna Madhusanka demanded traders in the sacred area to provide two bottles of liquor or an equivalent sum in its place as a consideration.
Both sides had traded blows with fists and clubs and three young traders injured in the clash were admitted to the Mihintale Hospital and later transferred to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital in a serious conduction.
Meanwhile, three others including the Pradeshiya Sabha member also got themselves admitted to hospital alleging that they too were attacked.
The injured are in the 25-30 age group and are residents of Ambatalegama and Siyambalagaswewa.
Mihintale Police investigating the clash said all those involved would be apprehended and produced in court.
