Sixteen percent of children have maxillofacial defects

A total of 16 percent of 12-year-old Sri Lankan children have from some sort of abnormality in of the jaws and teeth which needs medical treatment, Health Promotion Bureau Director Dr. Palitha Karunapema said.

Addressing a press conference held at the Health Promotion Bureau in Colombo he said that the fact had been revealed during 2015 -2016 National Oral Health Survey conducted in Sri Lanka.

This is a situation that requires the attention of all.

Addressing the press conference Consultant Orthodontists, Dr. K. Paranthamalingam said that free medical treatment available at all main state hospitals, hospitals of armed forces, dental faculty etc and the parents should bring their children for treatment at the age of six (6) and before the age of eight (8).
