Awareness Program to Minimize Consumption of Alcohol by Estate Workers

The cabinet of ministers has approved a proposal presented by the minister of plantation industries Navin Dissanayake to implement an awareness program with combination of the ministry of Upcountry new villages, Infrastructure and Community Development to upgrade life condition of estate workers. Even though the government has introduced several amenities to upgrade the living conditions of the plantation community, it is observed that the targeted return is not forthcoming due to the poor attitude of the community. Accordingly, the program will be implemented to elevate the living standards of plantation families, thereby, increasing the quality and quantity of tea and minimizing the consumption of alcohol by the estate workers.
