At least thirty-one people including 26 school children wounded when their school bus crashed into a bus transporting garment employees at Thalgodapitiya on the Kurunegala-Dambulla main road.
The accident took place when the “Sisu Seriya” school bus was on its way from Melsiripura to Kurunegala while the bus transporting garment employees was travelling to Dambulla from Ibbagamuwa.
The injured students and three garment employees who sustained severe injuries were admitted to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital while the driver of the school bus admitted to ICU of the same hospital in a critical condition.
The investigation commenced by the Gokarella Police reveled that two buses had collided when the school bus was trying to overtake another vehicle and the cause of the accident was the reckless driving of the driver of the “Sisu Seriya” bus.
The Gokarella Police is conducting further investigations.
