Wellampitiya copper factory employee remanded

An employee attached to the Wellampitiya copper factory arrested in connection with the Easter Sunday explosion was remanded till May 30 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage.

Wellampitiya Police said that Inshaf Ibrahim Ahamed who had blown himself up at Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo owned a copper factory in Wellampitiya where the suspect had been employed.

The remanded suspect was identified as Karupiah Rajendran Abhdul. Police stated that they had revealed that Inshaf Ibrahim Ahamed had gifted Rs.200,000 for Karupaiya’s wedding. Police further told that they found three cheques in possession of the suspect.

Police also said that the Terrorism Investigations Division was conducting a separate investigation regarding him. Police said that they had recovered information regarding the close relation between Karupiah Rajendran and suicide bomber Inshaf Ibrahim Ahamed. Police also produced another suspect before the court regarding the same incident. Another employee who had worked at the copper factory, was arrested in the Mawanella area.

The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for May 30.
