Presenting No-Confidence Motions (NCMs) to Parliament has become a trend, Parliamentarian Hector Appuhami said.
He was addressing the media yesterday, at Temple Trees, along with MP Kavinda Jayawardena.
He said it was pointless wasting time on No-Confidence Motions since they were now being presented just for show. However, the government has appointed a Parliament Select Committee which is scheduled to submit its report within two weeks. On receiving the report, necessary action will be taken by the Parliament, he added.
The MP said that the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) was giving the wrong impression about the Public Service Commission (PSC), he added.
Appuhami said that 10 proposals from him and MP Jayawardena have been submitted to the President, Prime Minister, and Opposition Leader, with a view to creating a common legal platform in the country.
“This is a move to bring the country on the right track. We will never stop trying to create a peaceful country. After establishing a common law, only common schools can be established with the due approval of the relevant state institutions,” he added.
The MP said that only Sinhala, Tamil, and English names should be used on name boards; no Arabic terms should be accepted. Moves will be made in order to remove Arabic name boards, as well as the date trees cultivated in the Kattankudy town.
MP Appuhami said that all those were an attempt to establish an Arabic colony in the country, which was unacceptable. He also stressed that an inquiry must be held into the allegations against Eastern Province Governor M.L.A.M. Hizbullah.
The Opposition aims to topple the government with the NCMs forwarded by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP). The SLPP wishes to jeopardise the country in order to make their personal and political agendas a success, he said.
MP Kavinda Jayawardena said investigations would be conducted into the persons behind Sharia University. Moreover, investigations were being conducted into the land acquisition for the university as well, he added.
The MP said that there shouldn’t be political parties based on religion—that they should not be accepted anymore.
