Honours for Rutnam

Sri Lankan dilm director Chandran Rutnam of ‘According to Matthew’ fame was honoured at the Asean International Film Festival in Kuching Sarawak, Malaysia recently. The globally acclaimed filmmaker was felicitated for the yeoman service he had done for the Malaysian and Sarawak film industry for many years.

He has been credited for bringing many Hollywood films to be shot in Malaysia. The list includes: ‘Farewell to the King’ starring Nick Nolte and Nigel Hagers, ‘Sleeping Dictionary’ starring Jesica Alba and Bob Hoskins, ‘Fifty/ Fifty’ starring Robert Hayes, Peter Weller and Ramona Rahman, ‘Beyong Rangoon’ starring Patricia Arquette, ‘Indochine’ starring Catherine Deneuve which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film, and‘Paradise Road’ starring Glenn Close and France's McDormand. Rutnam also had the distinction of leading the Malaysian delegation to the Cannes Film Festival.
