Army commander appeals to parents to send children to school

Army Commander Lt. Gen. Mahesh Senanayake appealed to all parents to have faith in the security forces and the police and send their children to school today without any fear as all necessary security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of school children.

In a special statement today, the Army Commander said, “Although special security measures were arranged for the recommencement of the second school term, parents were reluctant to send their children to school due to the numerous rumours being circulated and also unconfirmed reports regarding threats. However, I wish to assure parents that the tri forces and police consider providing security to schools as their prime obligation and have provided security to ensure the safety of all school children.

Therefore, I appeal to all parents to send their children to school from today without any fear as the safety of their children is assured.”
