A 28-year-old suspect was arrested by the Special Task Force personnel while he was transporting 5 kgs of heroin, on a motorbike at Y-junction in Makola yesterday afternoon, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said. The value of the heroin in the possession of the suspect is around Rs.50 million.
He was arrested around 12.00 noon based on a tip-off received by the STF.
The suspect was identified as Samaraweera Arachchige Jeewan Perera, a resident of Kiribathgoda, Kelaniya.
The suspect had been arrested previously by the STF. However, it has been revealed through interrogation that the suspect is operating on the instructions of drug kingpin Dematagoda Sudda, who is currently in prison. The suspect has been handed over to the Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.
