SLFP Kurunegala district organiser A.A.A. Lathief and 21 SLFP supporters obtained membership in the UNP from Kurunegla district UNP Parliamentarian, Education Minister and UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasam recently.
These SLFP members had worked for the SLFP during the last Local Government polls for the Dodangaslanda electorate in the Kurunegala district.
Lathief said the SLFP members in the Kurunegala District were frustrated and disappointed with the SLFP leadership and its senior members as they were “selfish and power hungry” and most of them betray the party for their personal gain and selfish motives. “That is why we decided to leave the SLFP and join the UNP unconditionally,” he told the Daily News.
