Lawyer, among gambling trio held with narcotic pills

Kollupitiya police raided a house in Kollupitiya and arrested three suspects in possession of narcotic pills in the wee hours of yesterday (April 17).

Police said one of the suspects Mohamed Iqbal Krishnai (38), a lawyer by profession had 4,110 grammes of the variety of drug named Ice in his possession.The other two suspects Abdul Hameed Faslin (33) had four narcotic pills in his possession while Abdul Careem Mohamed Asni had 430 miligrammes of Ice with him.

 The lawyer and two others have been released on bail. The police spokesman said once the suspects are produced in court, the courts determine if they could be released or not based on the quantity of the drugs found in their possession. However, SP Gunasekara said that as the lawyer is bound by the Supreme Court’s code of conduct action would be taken against him.

Police sources the three suspects had been frequenting several casinos in Colombo during the last three days and had reportedly lost nearly Rs.20 million while gambling. Apart from the lawyer the two other suspects arrested are said to be businessmen from Puttalam town. The suspects had confessed that the narcotics in their possession were for personal use. All suspects, residents of Puttalam were produced before the Fort Magistrate yesterday.
