Nikaweratiya Magistrate S. Lakmali Dassanayake remanded a suspect till March 11, over the alleged sexual assault on a schoolgirl, recently.
The suspect is a 65-year-old resident of Withikuliya, while the victim is a resident of Nikaweratiya, Kurunegala.
The accused had allegedly told the girl that he would kill her parents if she were reveal to them what had happened. The victim had then confided in her grandmother, who works abroad. Subsequently, her grandmother had informed the Nikaweratiya Police of the incident.
Meanwhile, a principal of a leading school in Kuliyapitiya, Kurunegala, who had recently been arrested over the alleged sexual abuse of a 17-year-old student, was remanded till March 8 by Kuliyapitiya Magistrate S. Janani Wijetunge, on March 1.
