Rathgama murders: Wildlife officer, cop remanded

Wildlife officer in charge of Medagangoda Forest Reserve in Walasmulla and a constable attached to the Southern Province Spiacal Crimes Unit, who were arrested in connection with the abduction and murder of two businessmen in Rathgama, were remanded till March 13 by Galle Chief Magistrate Harshana Kekunuwela.

The Criminal Investigation Department officials investigating into the death of these businessmen arrested the suspects .

The constable had confessed that the forest officer in question helped bring the bodies of the businessmen to the forest reserve where the bodies were burnt.

Investigators have also found the mobile phones used by the businessmen.

IP Kapila Nishantha and a Sub Inspector of the Southern Special Investigations Unit (SIU) were arrested in connection with the murders, after the CID took over the investigation on the directive of IGP Pujith Jayasundera.

Two businessmen from Rathna Udagama, Boossa, 33-year-old Manjula Asela and 31-year-old Rasen Chinthaka, were taken away by a group of persons in police uniforms, who had arrived in a van and a car at around 10 am on January 23.
