Principal granted bail

The principal of a leading school in Galle, who was arrested for soliciting a Rs, 100,000 bribe to admit a student to grade one, was granted bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayarathne yesterday.

The Principle was released on a cash bail of Rs.20, 000 and two sureties of Rs.500,000 each. Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption Commission officials arrested the principal when she had attempted to accept the bribe from the mother of the child. According to the B-report, the principle had admitted the child to Grade I without registering the student.

Bribery officials informed Court that she had demanded Rs.100,000 to admit the child to the Grade I.

The Magistrate fixed the case for May 26.
