Navy officer Rear Admiral Jayantha Perera re-remanded

When the magisterial inquiry into the abduction of two businessmen in Kotahena area was taken up before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s court, Criminal Investigation Department informed the court that they had revealed former Navy Commander Retired Rear Admiral Jayantha Perera, former Navy Intelligence Director Ananda Guruge and other senior officers at the navy camp in Welisara had been aware of the incident.
 
Meanwhile, the Navy Lieutenant Commander Sampath Dayananda, who was arrested over the abduction of two businessmen in Kotahena area in 2009, was further remanded till April 04 by Colombo Additional Magistrate Shalini Perera.
 
Sampath Dayananda has been charged for the abduction of two youths identified as V.P. Logananthan and Rathnasami Paramanandan on their way to Wellawatte. The two youths were residents of Kotahena.
 
CID’s Organized Crimes Division Unit OIC Nishantha Silva told court that abducted Vadivelu Yoganathan’s vehicle was found at the Welisara Navy Camp dismantled into72 pieces.
 
Meanwhile, another Navy intelligence officer, Lieutenant Commander Dammika Amila Mapa who was also arrested in connection with the abductions has been released on bail.
