Former Kahawatte SI sentenced to four years

Former Kahawatte Police Sub Inspector who was convicted for obtaining Rs.20,000 as gratification for not prosecuting a suspect involved in drug smuggling was sentenced to four years imprisonment by Colombo High Court judge Vikum Kaluarachchi.

He was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000. This convict was attached to Andana Police post, in Kahawatta.

Commission Deputy Director General Ranjani Seneviratne leadeing the prosecution pleaded the court that the suspect be imposed a punishment that will help other government servants to stay away from soliciting bribes.
