Case against ex-Nuwara Eliya Mayor fixed for March 22

The corruption case filed against former Nuwara Eliya Mayor Mahinda Dodampegamage, was yesterday postponed by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayarathne.

Attorney-at-law appearing on behalf of the defedant submitted written objections.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) filed a corruption case against the former Mayor on 14 counts, including the unlawful gain of Rs. 225,000 from the money granted for the Nuwara Eliya Summer Festival in 2013.

The CIABOC Director General filed the case against the former Mayor under Section 70 of the Bribery Act. The Bribery Commission alleged that the payment made by a sponsoring company for the Nuwara Eliya Summer Festival had been deposited in the account of the Mayor’s fund by the former Mayor, contrary to the provisions of the Urban Council Act.

The Magistrate fixed the case for March 22.
