Cambodian monk’s wish fulfilled before breathing last

A 91-year-old Cambodian monk, who came to Sri Lanka to climb Sripada, passed away on Wednesday after the completion of the pilgrimage.

Ven. Samrang Gnat Thera arrived in the country with a group of 200 pilgrims to make the pilgrimage to Sripada, 2,243 metres high.

The Ven Thera climbed Sripada from Nallathanni road and climbed down on Sunday morning.

However, while at a rest house in Nallathanni, the Thera had fallen sick and was admitted to the Maskeliya hospital. The Thera was transferred to Dikoya Base Hospital later.

After being treated for three days, the Thera passed away on Wednesday evening.

The postmortem revealed that the cause of death was heart failure.

The remains were brought to the Cambodian Temple in Colombo yesterday and will be sent to Cambodia.
